In modern first, Passover sacrifice to take place in Old City
Annual reenactment of slaughter of paschal lamb to be held Thursday inside the walls of ancient Jerusalem
The High Court of Justice on Monday upheld a police decision to bar a group of Temple Mount activists from holding their annual ceremony at Davidson Park, an archaeological site adjacent to the Western Wall on the southern side of the Temple Mount complex.
But in an unusual move, police on Wednesday said the activists would be allowed go ahead with the reenactment on Thursday in the main square of the Jewish Quarter of the Old City.
As in previous years, it is expected that MKs, rabbis and hundreds of members of the public will attend the ceremony.
Just like the Passover sacrifice that was offered in the time of the Temple, it will include slaughtering a lamb, flaying it in the traditional manner, throwing its blood on a model altar, and roasting and eating it.
The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the courtyard of the Hurva Synagogue. It will be preceded by a discussion of the Jewish laws of the ritual and the launching of an application to coordinate tours of the Temple Mount.
The group, the Temple Mount Institute, started a crowdfunding appeal and has already raised more than the total cost of the ceremony, NIS 30,000 ($8,250).
For over a decade the group has held a reenactment of the ritual slaughter of the Passover offering, a sheep or goat sacrifice.
Each year the activists request permission to do it on or near the Temple Mount, where ritual sacrifices were carried out at the time of the temple. And each year they have been refused by police and the courts, which say it could cause unrest if it is held on or near the most hotly contested site in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The group performs the demonstration because, according to Jewish law, a “real” Passover sacrifice can only be conducted on the Temple Mount.

Holidays and Festivals
Dear friend,
Shalom in the great name of Jesus our Messiah. The festival of Passover is just around the corner, and the staff of Your Mission to the Jewish People has been presenting a demonstration called Messiah in the Passover at hundreds of churches throughout North America.
I have personally given this presentation perhaps thousands of times in my 40+ years in Jewish ministry, and I never tire of the message.
Maybe it is because of the simplicity of the Good News – Jesus is the Messiah and the Passover Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
Pastors often give us the privilege of presenting Messiah in the Passover at their congregations with the added joy of celebrating communion – the Lord’s Supper. To relive the Passover as described in the book of Exodus and then to participate in communion with fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord is one of the most heart-stirring experiences a believer can enjoy.
If you have never had this experience, please ask your pastor to invite Chosen People Ministries to present this wonderful living sermon at your congregation next year. Call 1-888-405-5874 for more information or write to our Church Ministries Department at churches@chosenpeople.com.
Messiah in the Passover and the Story of Redemption
Participation in a Messiah in the Passover presentation is not only a beautiful experience for the believer, but the Messianic seder is also a very powerful way to help Jewish seekers witness the four-dimensional prophetic portrait of redemption portrayed in the presentation. Messiah in the Passover is the Gospel in living color!
The Messiah in the Passover enables you and your Jewish friends to sit down in the Upper Room and dine with Jesus and His disciples. Your Jewish friend will recognize the traditions, feel comfortable and will usually be more open to hearing about our Jewish Messiah – so please think about attending one of these presentations and bringing along a Jewish friend. Jesus the Passover Lamb
There are many references to Passover in the New Testament that affirm the fulfillment of Passover in the person of our Messiah. Let’s look at one of the many themes from the Passover and show how it points to Jesus. We find it in John the Baptist’s words:
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)
In order to properly interpret John’s statement in this passage, we must understand the Old Testament context. In Exodus 12:3-13, the Lord commands the children of Israel to slay a lamb and smear its blood on the doorposts and lintels of their homes. The blood of the lamb would then cover the home, thus sparing the first-born males from the Lord’s judgment. This is a type (an Old Testament prophetic picture) of what Jesus would accomplish through His crucifixion.
Atonement through the blood of the innocent, spotless lamb would become a way for the children of Israel to understand the sacrificial system, which would soon be revealed at Mount Sinai, and eventually in the power of the death of the Messiah Jesus. He is the Lamb of God who takes away OUR sin!
Born Again – and Experiencing the Passover
I still remember my first Passover as a believer. I came to faith when I was barely 19 years old. Although I grew up in the New York area, I was living in California at the time and it was there that I became a follower of Jesus. I was part of the Jesus movement – at least the Jewish “wing” of the Jesus movement.
I became a believer in November 1970. By the time Passover arrived, I had already left the West Coast and returned home. As you can imagine, my parents did not understand why I had become a believer in Yeshua (Jesus) and they were confused, angry and hurt. They told me that I couldn’t share the good news with my sisters, grandparents or anyone else.
My folks were especially worried I would say something to my religious grandparents at our family Passover seder, which was held every year in Brooklyn. I do not blame them! They should have been worried, because unless they had told me otherwise, I would have preached the Gospel to all of them at the family Passover. This probably would not have been well received! I was honoring my parents (a new trend for me after receiving Yeshua) and told them I would try to keep quiet.
This went well for the first part of the Passover seder, until my grandfather raised the shank bone of the lamb and told the story of Exodus 12. At that moment I could barely restrain myself from jumping up and shouting, “Grandpa… Grandpa – it’s Jesus.” But I didn’t do it.
It actually took a few more years before I was able to share the Gospel with my grandparents, and when I did, they never talked to me again. This was one of the hardest experiences of my life, but understandable, as they had fled Eastern Europe because of religious persecution that they blamed on “Christians.” Other than myself, I do not think my grandparents had ever met a born-again believer – sadly, a common experience among Jewish people.
You can only imagine the misunderstanding my grandparents, my own mother and father and so many of your Jewish friends have about Jesus. But when your Jewish friends witness Messiah in the Passover, they might realize for the first time that Christianity is the fulfillment of the Old Testament promises, and that you really can be Jewish and a believer in Jesus!

DAVE HUNT : Scripture reveals the answer OF .CRUCIFIXION WEEK

Question: I understand that you believe that Jesus died on the cross on Thursday, not Good Friday. Why do you say that, and does it matter?
Response: Scripture reveals the answer. Through the writings of Jeremiah, Daniel learned that the Babylonian captivity would last 70 years (Dn 9:2). God had commanded that each seven years the Hebrew slaves should be set free, debtors forgiven, and the land given a one-year sabbath of rest (Ex 21:2; Lv 25:2-4; Dt 15:1,2,12). For 490 years Israel had disobeyed this precept. In judgment, the Jews became slaves of Babylon while their land rested for 70 years of sabbaths.
Daniel confessed this sin, pondering and praying, and was given the revelation that another period of 490 years (70 weeks of years) lay ahead for his people and for Jerusalem (9:24). Then all of Israel’s sins would be purged, all prophecy fulfilled and ended, and the Messiah would reign on David’s throne in Jerusalem. These 70 weeks of years were to be counted “from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem” (v. 25). That crucial date is given to us in Scripture.
Nehemiah tells us: “in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king” (2:1), he received the authorization to rebuild Jerusalem. When the day of the month was not given, the first day was intended. There were several Artaxerxes, but only one, Longimanus, who ruled more than 20 years—from 465-425 BC. Thus we have the key date from which this incredible prophecy was to be calculated: Nisan 1, 445 BC.
At the end of 69 of these “weeks” (7×69 = 483 years) “Messiah the Prince” would be made known to Israel (Dn 9:25) and then “be cut off [slain]” (v. 26). Counting 483 years of 360 days each (the Hebrew and Babylonian calendar), a total of 173,880 days from Nisan 1, 445 bc brings us to Sunday, April 6, ad 32. On that very day, now celebrated as Palm Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a young donkey and was hailed as Messiah the Prince! (See also Zec:9:9)
There is, however, an even deeper meaning to the phrase, “In the fulness of time”: April 6, ad 32, on the Hebrew calendar was the tenth of Nisan. On that day, the Passover lamb was taken from the flock and placed under observation for four days to make certain that it was “without blemish.” During the same four days, Christ, whom John the Baptist had hailed as “the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (Jn:1:29), was likewise on display before Israel. On the fourteenth of Nisan, “the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it [the passover lamb] in the evening [between 3:00 and 6:00 pm]” (Ex 12:6). It was during that precise time period that Jesus died on the cross!
In fact, the rabbis had determined not to arrest Jesus during Passover, “lest there be an uproar of the people” (Mk 14:2). Yet that was when He had to die. Judas was not only Satan’s pawn but God’s. Even the “thirty pieces of silver” for which he so shrewdly bargained fulfilled prophecy (Zec:11:12-13
Peter would declare in his Pentecost sermon, “Him…delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain” (Acts:2:23). Paul wrote, “Christ our passover [lamb] is sacrificed for us” (1 Cor:5:7).
The fourteenth of Nisan began at sunset Wednesday evening. That night, Jesus and His disciples had the “last supper” in the upper room where they were preparing to eat the Passover the following night. At this meal “ before the feast of the passover ” (Jn:13:1), Jesus told His disciples, “One of you shall betray me” (Jn:13:21). Earlier He said, significantly, “I tell you before…that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he” (Jn:13:19). The word “he” is in italics and does not appear in the original. Jesus was declaring once again to His disciples that He was Yahweh, the I AM of Israel, who tells beforehand what will happen and makes certain that it comes to pass (Is 46:9-10).
Arrested by the Judas-led troop in the Garden later that night, Christ was taken secretly to the palace of Caiaphas, the high priest. A sham trial with hastily called false witnesses convened sometime after midnight and condemned Christ to death as dawn broke. Pilate, the Roman governor, was notified of the emergency. Hurriedly taken down side streets, the prisoner was received into the citadel at “the third hour” (Mk 15:25), (about 9:00 am), Nisan 14. All over Israel preparations were underway to kill the Passover lamb, which was to be eaten that night.
Pilate let his citizens decide the prisoner’s fate. The bloodthirsty rabble turned against the One who had miraculously healed and fed so many of them. “Crucify him, crucify him” (Lk 23:21). “His blood be on us, and on our children” (Mt 27:25).
Shortly before noon, Jesus, scourged and beaten, was led out of the city to “the place of the skull.” By noon, the One whom Jerusalem, in fulfillment of prophecy, had hailed as its long-awaited Messiah, was hanging naked on the center cross between two thieves. Man had crucified his Creator!
The next three hours of that Thursday afternoon the earth was darkened mysteriously (Mt 27:45) as God “laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Is 53:6). Thursday? Not “Good Friday”? Indeed not. Jesus himself had said, “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth [i.e., “Abraham’s bosom”]” (Mt 12:40; Lk 16:22). The gospel includes the declaration that Christ “rose again the third day” (1 Cor:15:4).
Had Christ been crucified on Friday, He couldn’t possibly have spent three days and three nights in the grave by Sunday morning. We are distinctly told that the angel rolled away the stone “as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week” (Mt 28:1). The tomb was already empty, so Christ must have risen from the dead sometime prior to dawn.
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday—does it really matter? Yes! The day of our Lord’s crucifixion is of the utmost importance. If Christ was not three days and three nights in the grave, then He lied. His death, to fulfill prophecy, had to occur at the very time the Passover lambs were being slain throughout Israel. It is an astronomical fact that Nisan 14, AD 32, fell on Thursday.
“And it was the preparation of the passover ….The Jews therefore…that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day…besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away” (Jn:19:14,31). Wait! Not a bone of the Passover lamb (Ex 12:46) or of the Messiah (Ps:34:20) could be broken. Not knowing why he did it, “one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side” (Jn:19:34), fulfilling yet another scripture: “they shall look upon me whom they pierced” (Zec:12:10).
John explains that the “Sabbath,” which began at sunset the Thursday Christ was crucified, “was an high day.” It was, in fact, the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, of which the first and last days were special sabbaths. It ended Friday at sunset, immediately followed by the weekly sabbath that ended at sunset on Saturday. Thus two sabbaths followed Christ’s death, preventing the women from coming to the grave until the third day, Sunday morning.
The rabbis thought that having Jesus crucified proved He wasn’t the Messiah. In fact, it was one more proof that He was! The soldiers took His clothes for a souvenir and gambled for His robe (Ps:22:18; 69:21); He was given vinegar mixed with gall to drink, nails were driven into His hands and feet, and a spear pierced His side, drawing forth the blood of our redemption—all in fulfillment of prophecy!
Top of Form
All that I KNOW ….is that Yeshua lived and DIED….and rose…….for my sins. HE IS.
Jesus died on Passover. Passover “day” or event changes from year to based on the Jewish month of Nisan. The Bible says that Jesus rose 3 days later. Friday to Sunday morning is not 3 days. The Edict of Milan 313 AD, Emporer Constantine and Licinius affirmed Galerius decision to legalize Christianity and hence changed our celebration of the Feasts of the Lord… specifically Passover for Christians to the pagan feast of Astarte (which became our Easter) along with Good Friday as the death instead of Passover. Jesus referred to Jonah being three days in the belly of the whale… as a type of his death. When he saiys three days, he means three days.
This is the fingerprint of God, people. Do not ignore it. If He has revealed it in His Book, then He obviously intended for us to see it, read it, understand it and be BLESSED by it.
It IS important because Jesus fulfilled the Scriptures.

FAITH WITHOUT OBIDIENCE

Faith Without Obedience
Announce to the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each family must choose a lamb or a young goat for a sacrifice, one animal for each household. Exodus 12:3
Today is the 10th day of Nisan, the day on which the Passover Lamb was to be set apart from the flock in order to be offered as an unblemished sacrifice to the Lord. Special care was to be taken of this lamb until the 14th of the month, the Passover, when the lamb would be slaughtered at twilight. On the original Passover, the blood of the lamb was smeared on the doorposts of every Hebrew home to distinguish them from the Egyptians and to protect them from the destroyer. The whole community of Israel professed their allegiance to God, but it would be this purposeful and individual act of obedience to God’s instructions which would set true believers apart to be delivered from bondage and spared from death. And when they were delivered, they would truly be God’s people, and God would be their God.
On this exact day in history, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey in the ,,Triumphal Entry”, presenting Himself as the unblemished eternal Passover Lamb of God. In the days that followed, He taught in the Temple, challenging and infuriating the religious leaders of His day with questions that they could not answer, until the 14th of the month when He would be betrayed and handed over to be killed. On this day as He entered the gates of Jerusalem, the people shouted for joy, declaring the fulfillment of the Psalms and the words of the Prophets Isaiah and Zechariah, affirming their faith in Jesus as the Son of David, the Son of God, their Messiah, and the King of Israel. Their words declared their faith that Jesus would deliver them from their oppression and that they would be called “The Holy People” and “The People Redeemed by the Lord.”
As Jesus rode into Jerusalem, He wept. He knew that, despite their professions of faith, in only a few days the people would all abandon and reject Him. He, too, remembered the words of the Prophet Isaiah, who said, ”These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.” Although the people professed their faith with their lips, it turned out that it was all talk and no action. They had abandoned true faith in God’s Word and trusted instead in their own traditions, rules, and regulations. These same people, only a few days later, would be the ones who stood in agreement with His crucifixion. He did not weep over His coming suffering and death, for this was His God-given purpose on earth. He wept over the hypocrisy of their proclamations of faith.
During His ministry on earth, Jesus taught about the difference between those who would profess faith and those who would put their faith into action through obedience to His teachings. He taught that everyone who hears His words and puts them into practice will be blessed. To them, He will be Savior and Messiah, their Prince of Peace, their Teacher, Counselor, and even their friend. But, anyone who professes their faith but does not put His teachings into practice, or places more faith in the tradition or philosophy of man, will be unstable in all their ways and cut off from God. These hypocrites, whose deeds do not match their words, will meet Jesus one day, and He will weep and say to them, “I never knew you.”
God still weeps over hypocrisy. What was true about genuine faith back then is still true for us today. If we genuinely believe the things that we say in faith, then we will put them into practice. Our purposeful acts of obedience are the distinguishing mark of what we truly believe. It is these acts of obedience, our putting into practice the teachings of our Lord Jesus which mark us for redemption, deliverance, and salvation and which smear the blood of the eternal Passover Lamb on the doorposts of our hearts. Put another way, faith without works is dead. We are saved by grace through faith, but our actions of obedience prove our faith to be genuine. If the Hebrews had not marked their doorposts in the original Passover, they should not have expected to be delivered from Egypt or spared from the destroyer. In the same way if we do not demonstrate our faith through our acts of obedience, then we should not expect to be delivered from our oppressors or spared from death, eternal separation from God, by the blood of our Passover Lamb, Jesus.
Talk is cheap. Obedience is costly. If you truly believe that Jesus is your Savior, then you will walk in the obedience of faith. Today, with renewed commitment, willingness and passion, declare again your faith in Jesus as your Savior and King, and your eternal Passover Lamb. Smear your heart with the blood of Jesus by putting into practice the things that He teaches. Then, you will be set free from oppression, and you will be marked for salvation and redemption. God will be your God, and you will be His child.

PASSOVER AND PALM SUNDAY

Passover and Palm Sunday
This Week’s Feature Article by Jack Kelley
The next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God.” (John 1:29,34).
John the Baptist had been preaching about the coming Messiah, identifying himself as the forerunner Isaiah had promised over 700 years earlier. Quoting from Isaiah 40:3 John said, “I am the voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord ‘ “ (John 1:23).
Introducing Jesus to Israel as the Lamb of God was no doubt meant to prompt a comparison between Jesus and the Passover lamb in their minds. Reading about the first Passover (Exodus 12:1-20) from a Christian perspective makes the similarity so clear we wonder how they could have missed it. In fact several hundred Old Testament Prophecies were fulfilled in the life of Jesus and many of these came in the last week of His earthly life during the two events we’ll be celebrating in the next few days, Passover for Israel and Palm Sunday for the Church.
For Christ, Our Passover Lamb, Has Been Sacrificed … 1 Cor. 5:7
By now the Passover story should be familiar to us. The final showdown between God and Pharaoh was coming. Through 9 plagues God sent to demonstrate His power over the pagan gods of Egypt, Pharoah had remained just as obstinate as God had predicted. The 10th plague, the death of all the firstborn, would break Pharoah’s will and free the Israelites from their bondage, but first they had to be protected from the plague.
On the 10th day of the 1st month God had them select a male lamb for each household and inspect it for 3 days to be sure it had no blemish or defect. Then it was slaughtered, and its blood was applied to the door posts of their homes. That night, behind closed doors in their own house, each family ate the lamb quickly with some bitter herbs and unleavened bread, not venturing outside. At midnight the destroying angel came through Egypt and took the life of the first born of every family, except for those who had covered their door posts with lamb’s blood (Exodus 12:1-13, 21-23, 28-30).
The next morning the Israelites were released from their bondage and given the wealth of Egypt, beginning their journey to the Promised Land with God in their midst. They weren’t spared because they were Jewish, or because they had lamb for dinner, but because they applied the lamb’s blood to their door posts believing that it would protect them. They were saved through faith by the blood of the lamb.
Just as the Israelites were slaves in Egypt, we are slaves in this world, held in bondage to sin. On that first Palm Sunday, the 10th of the 1st month, our Passover Lamb was selected by allowing Himself to be proclaimed as Israel’s King for the first and only time in His life. When the Pharisees told him to rebuke His disciples for doing so, He said if they kept silent the very stones would cry out (Luke 19:39-40). This was the day ordained in history for His official appearance as their Messiah.
For the next 3 days He was subjected to the most intense questioning of His entire ministry lest there be any defects found in His words or deeds. Then on the 14th He was crucified, releasing us from our bondage to sin, and qualifying us to receive the wealth of His Kingdom. We are saved through faith by the blood of the Lamb. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
The Son of Man Wept, The Son of God Warned
As He approached Jerusalem and saw the city He wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace – but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in from every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone upon another because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you” (Luke 19:41-44).
The prophet Daniel had laid out the schedule for them over 500 years earlier. From the time the Jews were given permission to rebuild Jerusalem after it had been destroyed by the Babylonians, to the coming of the Messiah, there would be 69 periods of 7 years each, or 483 years (Daniel 9:25). History tells us that this permission was given to Nehemiah by the Persian ruler Artaxerxes Longimonus in March of 445 BC (Nehemiah 2:1-9). The Sunday when Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem to the shouts of Psalm 118:25-26 was exactly 483 years later, but by then most of the Jewish leadership no longer took the Bible literally and the validity of predictive prophecy was being denied.
Regardless of their opinion, the Lord held them accountable for knowing when He would visit. Given that hundreds of additional prophecies of His coming had already been fulfilled in their midst, we can see His point. Remember, they were all fulfilled in the span of one lifetime, the one in which He came. There are hundreds more prophecies relating to His Second Coming, and again all will be fulfilled within the span of one lifetime, the one in which He comes (Matt 24:34). And just as it was then, our leaders no longer take the Bible literally and the validity of predictive prophecy is again being denied. But regardless of their opinion, the Lord will hold the people of our day accountable to “recognize the time of God’s coming” just like He did back then.
Who Was That Man?
A few days ago I got an email from someone I assume to be Jewish claiming that Jesus didn’t meet a single requirement to be Israel’s Messiah. I’ve received a number of these over the years and have come to realize they think this way because Israel was looking for a Messiah to fulfill what we know as second coming prophecies. They wanted the Lion of Judah, a powerful warrior king like David, who could throw off the Roman yoke and restore Israel’s kingdom, because that’s what they thought they needed. They didn’t think they needed a Savior, so when they got the Lamb of God who came to take away their sins they didn’t recognize Him.
Today, because of a similar denial of the validity of prophecy, much of the world is looking for some version of the Lamb of God. They want a gentle teacher who will accept us all and promise to show us the way to peace and plenty. They won’t think they need a conqueror, so when the Lion of Judah comes to utterly destroy His enemies and restore God’s Kingdom, they won’t recognize Him (Matt. 24:30). Like the man said, “Those who don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it.” You can almost hear the footsteps of the Messiah. 03-23-13

It’s the thirteenth chapter then of the gospel of Mark. As we come to this section before us, we are with our Lord Jesus and the disciples sitting on the Mount of Olives. It is the end of the day on Wednesday of Passion Week. On Friday He will die on the cross. On Sunday He will rise. On Thursday He will prepare for the Passover and celebrate the Passover meal Thursday evening with His disciples. And that’s where the betrayal will occur, that night, and it will all come to fruition on Friday, He will be tried, He will be executed on the cross, as I said, to rise on Sunday.
So in a very real sense, this is a very, very important moment for our Lord. His final day of public teaching has been concluded, spent the whole day in the temple. He arrived in Jerusalem on Monday. On Tuesday He went in to attack and assault the temple and threw out the buyers and sellers that were there and prepared that temple for His entrance on Wednesday. Went in and used that full day to teach the truth in that place, first time in hundreds of years the truth had dominated the temple. But for a day He taught His final lessons, His final messages….

JESUS, OUR PASSOVER IS THE ONLY MAN QUALIFIED TO RECONCILE MAN TO GOD-That is why He said, “no man cometh unto the Father but by Me!”

HE WAS QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB
There are two things in God’s Word that represent the body of Jesus Christ: the Passover Lamb, and the Unleavened Bread. The Passover Lamb was selected on the tenth day of the first month, and it was to be observed until the fourteenth day, when it was to be killed and eaten (Ex. 12:1-10). It was to be without blemish, that is, without any imperfection (v. 5). A diseased or less than perfect lamb was not acceptable.
Just as the Passover Lamb had to be without blemish, the bread of the feast had to be unleavened. Leaven in the Scriptures always represents sin (Ex. 12:15-19; Matt. 13:33; 16:6-12; 1 Cor. 5:1-6; Gal. 5:9). When you think about it, the results of leaven in bread literally makes it appear to be something that it is not. Leaven simply adds to the bread dough, giving one the false impression that they are getting more sustenance; however, the more leaven, the more “empty space” in the loaf. The Apostle Paul wrote that of Jesus: “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us” (1 Cor. 5:7).
Jesus, declaring Himself to be the “Bread of Life,” proclaimed that “Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, ye have no life in you” (Jn. 6:48-58). The Apostle Paul had this to say about believers partaking of the Lord’s Supper:
“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread: and when He had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is My body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of Me. After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in My blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of Me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till He come” (1 Cor. 11:23-26).
There are several verses that describe Jesus as being perfect; that is, without sin: Isaiah 53:9 says “And He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth.” Luke 23:41 says, “And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man hath don nothing amiss.” John 8:46 reads, “Which of you convinceth Me of sin?” 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “And He became sin for us Who knew no sin, that we might become the
in Him.” Hebrews 4:15 ends by stating that Jesus “was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” 1 Peter 2:22 says, “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth.” The Apostle John wrote, “And ye know that He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin” (1 Jn. 3:5).
Jesus, our Passover, is the only Man qualified to reconcile man to God;
That is why He said, “no man cometh unto the Father but by Me!”

JESUS: OUR PASSOVER LAMB

JESUS: OUR PASSOVER LAMB

While speaking to his disciples, John (the Baptizer) saw Jesus coming and said, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (Jn. 1:29, 36). This was not a new concept in God’s Word, for approximately two thousand years before, Abraham had said, “My son, God will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering” (Gen. 22:8). The prophet Isaiah described Him as “as a Lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers” (Isa. 53:7). This verse from Isaiah was the one the Ethiopian eunuch was reading when Phillip joined him in his chariot (Acts. 8:32).
The Apostle Paul, not only recognized Jesus as the Lamb of God, he understood Him to literally be our Passover Lamb (1 Cor. 5:7). The Apostle Peter described Jesus as being qualified to be our Passover when he wrote, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things…. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Pet. 1:18-19; Ex. 12:3-5). Jesus is also described as the resurrected Lamb of God twenty-seven times in the Book of Revelation. Perhaps the most revealing of those is “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Rev. 13:8).
Because Jesus was born before Herod the Great died in 4 B.C., and it is believed He lived at least thirty-three years, theologians estimate His birth to be in 5 B.C. and His death somewhere between A.D. 26 and A.D. 36 (the years Pontius Pilate was the Prefect of the providence of Judea). Their estimate has to do with Jesus being “about thirty” when He began His ministry (Lk. 3:23), and the number of Passovers mentioned in the Gospel of John (Jn. 2:13; 6:4; 11:55; 19:14). Therefore, it is quite possible that Jesus actually was thirty-three when He was crucified, because in the year A.D. 28, the Passover Lamb was slain on a Wednesday.
Because Matthew 12:40 describes Jesus as being dead for three days and three nights, a Friday Crucifixion is impossible. Jesus rose on the first day of the week (Sunday – sometime after sunset on our Saturday); counting backward seventy-two hours, He would have had to die just before sunset on Wednesday. Regardless of tradition, it appears that the Lamb of God was “selected” on the tenth of Nissan, examined by the religious rulers over the next three days, and then sacrificed on Wednesday, the fourteenth of Nissan (Ex. 12:3-6). That would make His triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Friday, the ninth instead of Sunday as we now celebrate it as Palm Sunday.
The Feast of Passover involved selecting the Lamb, waiting until the fifth day, and then sacrificing it. Because Jesus was our Passover Lamb, and He died as such on the fourteenth of Nissan, a Wednesday, I believe the meal we call the “Last Supper,” was simply one of the evening meals between the tenth and the fourteenth of Nissan, specifically, the evening meal of the thirteenth. I do not believe it was a Passover Seder, as many have declared it to be. But, that is just how I see it.

Regardless of the day, Jesus died right on time for the sins of all mankind!
Better yet, He rose right on time to be Lord of all who will believe!
